Who Will Take Your Place?

Numbers 27-28

READ – “O LORD, You are the God Who gives breath to all creatures. Please appoint a new man as leader for the community.” Numbers 27:16 NLT

EXAMINE –
If a man died without sons, God established that his daughters deserved to inherit his portion (Numbers 27:1-11). (Please make sure that you have a Will detailing your wishes about who inherits what.) When God told Moses that he could see the Promised Land before he died, Moses asked God to appoint a new leader and Joshua was chosen as the next leader to take Moses’ place (Numbers 27:12-23). God gave instructions to this new and younger generation of the sacrifices required for worship and maintaining their relationship with God (Numbers 28). These included daily, weekly and monthly offerings in addition to the special national religious days of Passover and Pentecost.

APPLY –
Who will take your place? No one likes to think about their own death but one day it will come. Moses was forward-thinking enough to prepare the people for their future and their days without him by asking God to appoint someone who could be a faithful leader, fearless fighter and compassionate father to shepherd the people (Numbers 27:17). Be wise and loving enough to prepare your family, your company, your church and your community for a future without you. Who will take your place?

PRAY –
Father God, since Your work is too important and must continue, give us wisdom to mentor and train future leaders. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
