When To Answer?

Esther 1:10-15

READ –  “He immediately consulted with his wise advisers, who knew all the Persian laws and customs, for he always asked their advice.” — Esther 1:13 NLT

EXAMINE –  While intoxicated, Xerxes made a decision (v. 10) based solely  on his feelings. He wanted the Queen to leave her banquet guests (v. 9) to come and be on display for a room full of men. He wanted the men to see how beautiful she was (v. 11). The queen refused (v. 12).The king consulted his advisers about how to respond to Vashti’s refusal (v. 13-15).

APPLY – Vashti refused to parade before the king and his male counterparts. We don’t know why she refused his request. She did not follow protocol and put the king in a difficult position. We need to make sure we don’t let others put us on public display. Know why you’re being called and when to answer.

PRAY – Father God, in Your Word so say, “make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
