Esther 2:1-9
READ – “Hegai was very impressed with Esther and treated her kindly. He quickly ordered a special menu for her and provided her with beauty treatments. He also assigned her seven maids specially chosen from the king’s palace, and he moved her and her maids into the best place in the harem.” — Esther 2:9 NLT
EXAMINE – After Xerxes had calmed down, he thought about Vashti and the decree he had made. The attendants suggested they search for a queen, so the king appointed agents to search for beautiful young women (harem) (v. 2, 3). Mordecai, a Jew, Esther’s cousin, is introduced (v. 5,7). Esther was one of the women taken to the king’ harem in Susa (v. 8).
APPLY – It doesn’t seem if Esther had a choice in being a part of the king’s harem. She was given favor, given beauty preparation above and beyond, had seven choice maidservants and moved to the best place in the harem. Esther had natural beauty to begin with but the “after” was more glamorous. Esther was a Jew, captive, an orphan and born to be a queen. “No matter how hard the past is, you can always begin again.”
PRAY – Father God, never let kindness and loyalty leave us, tie them around our neck, write them on our heart to that we will find favor with God and people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
